One win, one loss, and more gaffs from Billy
On this blustery and damp morning, the first problem to negotiate was how many layers of extra clothing to take! That sorted it was off to Brookland, a ground I had not visited before, that turned out to have a really nice Pavilion allowing the scorers to site inside in the warm - extra layers not needed!! It was great to see a couple of our "old" faces in the shape of Robin Shuter and Will but even they could not seem to raise the level of enthusiasm while the team shivered, on mass, through the obligatory wicket inspection. (There was the usual pointing and prodding and what appeared to be some very serious discussion, does this ritual aid in deciding the tactics for the game I wonder?) There were mutterings about better ways to spend a wet Sunday but following the toss The Wood went into bat.
Duckboy ended up back in the Pavilion, bowled in the 3rd over, having hit a couple of boundaries - not a promising start. With the run rate going at just under 3 an over matters progressed sedately - the G-man and Trev looking good for another decent partnership. Alas not to be, the G-man went in the 13th over - 36 for 2. Robin up next and he and Trev upped the tempo until Trev, on 45, was caught - 78 for 3 in 21. Jezza was bowled without troubling the scorer (he wasn't the only one!) - 82 for 4 in 23. Robin went next, bowled for 18 and apart from Dan who ended unbeaten on 13 nobody else got into double figures - all out for 116 with 3 overs left - not one of our better performances. We made a reasonable start with Reedy taking their first wicket in the 3rd over courtesy of a Moxham catch - 12 for 1. Unfortunately this didn't herald a batting collapse for them and with the run rate hovering round about the 5 mark, it didn't take Brookland long to knock off the runs for the loss of only one more wicket - 120 for 2 in 22.1 overs. The match finished at just on 6 o'clock in what had now turned into a beautiful sunny evening. So it's all eyes on Challock now in a fortnight's time - here's to a barn-storming finish . . . hopefully. One win, one loss, and more gaffs from Billy
Saltwood's season finally got off the mark with a mixed weekend. A four run win on Saturday against a side from Thanet, and a loss to Elham on Sunday. It wasn't a complete loss for the boys on sunday as they got to witness Billy makingthe first gaff of the season, by tripping over his own laces and letting the ball trickle past him for four runs, much to the dismay of the bowler and amusment of the everyone else at the ground. Well done to both teams as they got to play a bit of cricket, and bring on East malling in the KVL

In celebration of 24 season 5 returning to our screens, we've dragged our very own '24' from the archives to re-live the good old days when we got complaints and threats. Please note that some editing has taken place since the first broadcast some time ago. Sit back, and thank god that you're not special agent Billy Crumbie, as this is going to be the longest day (albeit cut short by potential legal action) of his life...
Its that time of year again, so members should be thinking up their excuses for missing out on the Boxing Day Run. My knee reacts badly to the cold weather, so I'll have to bow out early, but Tom is in fine form and should...more -

The 2005 season marks Ian 17th season with the Wood. In that time he has taken 388 wickets (including 212 children) and scored almost 3500 runs. These stats may suggest that he is a multi-talented cricketer, but really what they tell...more
